This was our first day completely on our own. We
took the subway down to the South Pier and got in line for the Staten Island
Ferry. After a few minutes I figured out that we wanted to go to Liberty
Island, not Staten Island so I got directions and we headed across Battery Park
and went to the correct ferry station. I got in another huge line and
purchased the ferry tickets for Liberty Island and Ellis Island. They were
only $10 each so that was a pleasant surprise. The tickets to go up on the
Pedestal for the Statue of Liberty were already sold out so we weren't able to
get as close to the Statue as we would have liked but it was still awe
inspiring. Ellis Island was very interesting. It had been abandoned
by the government in the early 50's and the main building was renovated and
turned it into a museum in the 80's. It was amazing to see the detail that
had gone into it and to imagine the millions of immigrants that had passed
through.
Today was our 1 year Wedding Anniversary so we checked into the Mayflower Hotel
which is located on the south west corner of Central Park. We got all
cleaned up and went out for a really good Chinese dinner and the Tang Pavilion
on West 55th street. The food was wonderful and the service was
outstanding. As we were walking back to the hotel we went for a romantic
Horse & Buggy ride through Central Park.
